Authorities have identified the victim of a tragic drowning at Lake Hartwell in Oconee County, South Carolina, as Kayden M. Jabara, a 19-year-old from Hoschton, Georgia. His sudden passing has left family, friends, and members of both the Georgia and South Carolina communities mourning the loss of a young life cut tragically short.
According to officials, the incident occurred during the early morning hours of Saturday, July 4, near the Harts Cove Apartments on Lake Hartwell. Oconee 911 Communications received the initial emergency call at approximately 2:36 a.m., prompting a large-scale response from law enforcement, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and rescue teams.
Residents in the area reported seeing numerous emergency vehicles with flashing lights near the lakeshore as first responders searched for the missing swimmer. The extensive search continued for several hours as rescue crews worked tirelessly to locate him.
The Oconee County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene at approximately 8:20 a.m. Officials confirmed that Kayden Jabara was located at approximately 8:10 a.m. in about 17 feet of water, roughly 60 feet from the shoreline.
Investigators said Jabara had been swimming with friends in the lake during the early morning hours before the tragic incident occurred. Following an examination, the Oconee County Coroner’s Office ruled his cause of death as drowning, with the manner of death determined to be accidental.
